I use the DOS prompt every day. (Linux or Unix users would call it the shell.)

It has gotten better with time. Now it has filename completion by hitting the TAB key; command history (press the up arrow key to recall previous commands, or type the first part of a command and press F8 to search for a previous command); doskey macros.

Drag the mouse to highlight some text in the DOS window, right-click to copy it to the clipboard, and right-click again to paste it in the command line.

Ahhhh! But when I started with DOS, it was about all we had. I remember saying I will never use Windows! LOL! Now I have 7.....Who would have thought? I want to thank everyone who tried to help me with the download problem. I still think the people who come to the Archive are some of the best people I've never met.

I did a lot of writing twenty years ago on Word for DOS...it did the job at the time! I have Windows 7 now on my main computers, but I use the Opera web browser, I also run a small word processor called Atlantis that's a breeze and far less bloated than Word or Open Office. I'll stick with Windows for my operating system, but for everything that runs on it, I use other applications.

And yep, there are some great folks here! :)
